Father's Day is fast approaching (Sunday, June 21, for those who need a reminder), and to celebrate the fathers and father figures of our lives, we have contacted our team of Wanderlust writers and their asked to sign you letters to their fathers. Here is what they had to say.
Dear daddy,
You promised to do it differently than your father, and you did it. You were the first person in your family to graduate from high school. And in college. Thanks to your savings as a teacher, you took us to a small suburban city, in a world of security, order and security.
How difficult it must have been to see your child growing up with the urge to travel.
A child who dreamed of skyscrapers, safaris and everything beyond our barriers A child who jumped, fell, danced, stumbled. Grown up. Yoga discovered. And then questioned every rule of an ordered world.
But it was yoga that saved me when you registered at the hospital. The day before my yoga test, they opened your heart. And that became my real test - that's why you've prepared me from the beginning.
I guided Mom through light breathing exercises while we were sitting in the waiting room.
I swaddled her in yoga blankets at night and put her in restorative poses to help her sleep. I read the Bhagavad Gita. It was not scripture you would have chosen for me, but I studied with perseverance, as your teacher taught.
You survived your open heart surgery and your heart even opened up. For what seemed like the first time, you accepted me in all my fire and challenge. A door was unlocked. You did it differently. Just as you swore you would always do it.

You are appreciated.
I recently realized the true depth and breadth of your presence. You may not have been as forthright as Mom, and you may never have been the parent who accompanied us, or even the first parent we called in times of desperation - all this has always been his work. But I realized that your spirit, your influence, your character and your discreet but strong presence are invaluable to me.
In the wake of our mother, you stay calm, together, firm and sweet. And, while I naturally tend to lean more towards the disturbing nature of my mother, I have the privilege of leaving only a drop of your cool mystic woven into my being.
